Walks
I’ve gone for walks all through my life,
The first was cheered by all.
A toddler’s steps across the floor,
Steadied by the Mother I adored.
And as my steps grew stronger each day,
She released me to roam my world.
And while I explored this wondrous place,
Life passed me by at a rapid pace.
Then I started a journey with the man I loved,
Down the aisle of a little white church.
That’s where we walked into each other’s arms,
He swept me away with all his charm.
We’ve walked through seasons in our lives,
A romp through fields in spring.
We walked down cow paths just for fun,
Playing hide and seek from the hot summer sun.
There were walks down tree lined country roads
In the cool crisp air of autumn,
With bright colored leaves falling all around,
Nature’s patchwork quilt covered the ground.
A moonlight walk I remember well,
It happened one winter’s night.
We walked through snow where no steps had tread,
With sparkling diamonds twinkling overhead.
When life’s problems came our way,
And made our steps grow heavy.
We walked through sorrow hand in hand,
Finding comfort in knowing He had brighter days planned.
There was one walk I took alone
The most important one to me.
It led to an altar where I knelt and prayed.
I begged the Lord, please take my sins away.
And since that time he’s guided my steps
To a place where I can rest.
And whether my heart’s filled with joy or despair,
He never leaves; He’s always there.
A final walk I’ll take one day,
Alone I will not be.
I’ll stroll along through the Promised Land,
I’ll be holding on, to His nail scarred hand.
